2022 Beach Wrestling World Champions
The biggest ever Beach Wrestling World Championship at the Black Sea in Constanta, Romania came to an end on Sunday. The 2022 Beach Wrestling World Series thrilled fans in five stages that began at Ortaca Beach in Turkey at the end of May. In Sunday’s final, hosts Romania took three world titles in the women’s event, while the glorious Georgians secured two gold medals in the men’s event.
Levan Kelekhsashvili proved once again that he is the wrestler to beat as he secured an impressive third consecutive victory at the fifth and final event of the Beach Wrestling World Series in Constanța, Romania. Georgia’s Nika Kentchadze was one of the favourites in the men’s 80 kgclass and he lived up to his billing as he reached the final. However, there was no showdown against Csaba Vida as the Hungarian withdrew due to injury. Ibrahim Yusubov from Azerbaijan won the men’s up to 90 kg title. In the men’s over 90 kg category, Turkey’s Fatih Yasarli stood at the top of the podium after his 3:0 final victory over Mamuka Kordzaia from Georgia.
In the women’s under 50 kg category, Stefania Priceputu failed to claim a double victory after losing 2-1 to India’s Kumari Hanny in the gold medal match. Iryna Khariv from Ukraine became the youngest winner in the women’s under 60 kg after defeating Romania’s Elena Ionescu. Bulgarian fighter Mimi Hristova won the gold medal in the under 70 kg category against her compatriot Sofiya Georgieva within 10 seconds. The heavy favourite Catalina Axente achieved her goal of winning the women’s over 70 kg title after beating Liudmyla Pavlovets Tychyna from Ukraine 2:0.
