A spectacular backdrop for what is sure to be equally spectacular racing as the cycling world turns its attention to South Australia and the first big race on the international calendar
Hello and welcome to the 2025 Santos Tour Down Under. It is Brighton hosting the start of the stage out Aldinga Beach for the finish.
It is a good day for the riders today. Not too hot. We’re expecting a top of 30 degrees, slightly overcast for the 101.9km. Currently it’s 22.7 degrees at the start line in Brighton, and, will be heading all the way down the Fleurieu Peninsula to Aldinga Beach.
ZIP Trak Stage one, starts in Brighton and finishes at Aldinga Beach. The first of the zip trek intermediate sprints is up just 35km, having been covered. And that is when they go through the finish line for the first time. But it is in the opposite direction to which they will be going for the stage finish.
From there they make the journey further along the coast. But as they get towards the back end of the stage at around about the midway point, it’s on to Heatherdale hill for the first of the EFEX Queen of the mountains ten points up for grabs and just one Queen of the mountains climb on today’s stage. So an opportunity to take the polka dot jersey.
They then start to make their way back towards Aldinga and with just 30km remaining, It’s the second of the zip Trek sprints in the race for the points classification. We then head along the Esplanade, a fast final three kilometres to see who takes the stage and who takes the first Ochre jersey.
The stage is definitely one for the sprinters as we get some shots of the riders signing on at the start line in Brighton.
