The Qatar Airways GKA Kite World Tour 2024 hosted the second out of three stops in the Freestyle discipline this week in Cauipe, North-Eastern Brazil.
The GKA Freestyle Kite World Champions will be crowned at the final stop of the season in Fuwairit (QAT), held December 10-14th.
The world’s best freestyle kiteboarders showcased their amazing skills and stunning tricks while rotating through the air at the Copa Kitley GKA Freestyle Kite World Cup 2024. The flat waters combined with strong winds in the lagoon gave the athletes perfect conditions in Brazil.
Bruna Kajiya lands back-to-back wins with victory on home waters in Brazil.
In the women’s final, the favorite was overall leader and local hero Bruna Kajiya, challenged especially by Rita Arnaus (ESP) and Italian Francesca Bagnoli. Kajiya was quite simply in a league of her own again: Among others an 8.47 score was followed by an 8.23 for a Combo, which brough her total up to 31.20 points. She rightfully took the victory for back-to-back season wins. Bagnoli and Arnaus were locked in a close battle for 2nd place, with the Spaniard emerging victorious after her final trick (6.6 points). Kajiya is the clear favorite for the World Champion title at the season finale in December, Arnaus in second overall and Bagnoli and Danish athlete Lehmann in tied 3rd place.
In the men’s category, the top three of the first Freestyle World Cup of the season, French Arthur Guillebert, Swiss Maxime Chabloz and Finn Flügel (GER)all qualified for the final heat. Quickly the battle for the top spot was between Guillebert and Chabloz, with the Frenchman leading also thanks to a 9.07 score for a Front Blind Mobe 5. Chabloz answered with perfect 10-point ride for a Back Mobe 7 and closed out the heat with a 7.9 score. This final trick gave him the edge over Guillebert, clinching his first World Cup win on the World Tour and German Finn Flügel finishing third with some solid scores. Chabloz and Guillebert are now joint top of the Freestyle rankings with one more World Cup event to come.
