Freestyle Pro Tour in Vieste 2023
The second tour stop of the Freestyle Pro Tour 2023 was held picturesque and windy Vieste in Italy. Maaike Huvermann (NED) won the women’s freestyle in difficult conditions. There was not enough wind for the men’s final, so the competition had to be stopped early. In the discipline Foilstyle Double Elimination Yentel Caers (BEL) won the competition on the penultimate day.
Maaike Huvermann (NED) showed why she is the only woman to become European Champion so far. With a safe lead of 5 points, the Dutchwoman continued her winning streak on the European Freestyle Pro Tour. Her opponent, German Lisa Kloster, also made the best of the conditions, with spocks, punetas and a nice shaka. In the small final Oda Johanne Brodholt dominated. With a nice Kono on starboard, she made sure she would not repeat her mistake from the semifinal. With Shaka to port behind her, her podium place was now secured.
Yentel Caers (BEL) defended his position in the Foilstyle Double Elimination on the penultimate day of EFPT 2023 in Vieste. After the wind spiked from zero to hero in less than 15 minutes, several riders tried to get back to the top in the comeback round and provided outstanding freestyle action. Germany’s Lennart Neubauer took second place, while Steven Van Broeckhoven (BEL) finished third.
