GKA Kite-Surf World Cup Cape Verde – First event winners of the season crowned
the GKA Kite World Tour 2025 crowns its first GKA Kite-Surf winners of the season. The GKA Kite-Surf World Cup Cape Verde launches with 25 men and 18 womenfrom 15 different nations, all ready to battle it out at the iconic location of Ponta Preta. Renowned as one of the world’s most famous kite-surfing waves, Ponta Preta provides the perfect stage for the opening event of the new season. Brazilian Pedro Matos dominates the men’s competition, claiming victory, while Capucine Delannoy (FRA) secures her first-ever win in Cape Verdean waters in the women’s division.
The men’s competition kicks off with explosive performances. In the semi-finals, three Brazilians, Sebastian Ribeiro, Pedro Matos, and reigning World ChampionGabriel Benetton, join Cape Verde’s own Cozzolino in a stacked lineup. Ribeiro leads most of his heat against Cozzolino, but in the final moments, Cozzolinodelivers a critical wave, scoring 8.70 points to edge ahead. In the other semi-final, Benetton struggles to find good waves, while Matos dominates with power and precision, securing his place in the final against Cozzolino.
The final is a showdown of titans. Fans line the beach as Cozzolino and Matos go wave-for-wave, separated by mere fractions of a point. With two minutes to go, Matos finds the perfect wave, scoring a massive 9.0 to take the lead. Cozzolino searches for a last chance, but time runs out. Pedro Matos sails into shore as the new GKA Kite-Surf World Cup Cape Verde champion, celebrated by roaring cheers and waving flags.
The women’s competition finished a day earlier than the men’s (see GKA25_CPV_Day2_16x9.mp4 ). The final is a fierce battle between reigning world championCapucine Delannoy and last year’s Cape Verde winner, Moona Whyte.
At the halfway mark, Capucine holds a narrow lead, while Moona struggles to match her earlier nine-point waves. In the final moments, Moona commits to a strong set, but her 7.23-point score isn’t enough. Capucine, meanwhile, continues to pick the best waves and rides with confidence, finishing with a commanding 14.97 points to Moona’s 14.06. With that, Delannoy secures her first-ever victory in Cape Verde.
