Suardiaz (ESP) and Berzolla (USA) crowned Wave World Champions in Cape Verde | GWA Wingfoil World Cup Cape Verde 2025
The 2025 season of the GWA Wingfoil World Tour kicked off with the first World Cup in Wave discipline respectively, held from March 13th to 15th in Sal, Cape Verde. Either Ponta Preta’s rocky point-break or Kite Beach’s sandy shoreline ensured a stunning backdrop for the world’s best wingfoilers. This competition saw 27 men and 8 women from 18 different nationalities registered to participate.
In the men’s competition, Cash Berzolla (USA) took the win at the first stop of the tour and became the new Wave World Champion 2025. Facing Canadian´s Finn Spencer in the final, it was a close battle with both riders pushing the limits. Finn Spencer displayed an impressive surf style with great wave selection, but Cash Berzolla had already gained an early lead and maintained it until the end. His control and commitment were remarkable, and though Finn Spencer closed in on points, it wasn’t enough to dethrone Cash Berzolla. The mini-final saw Malo Guenole (FRA) shake off his frustration and focus on securing a podium finish. Determined to impress, he delivered the highest wave score of the event—a 9.5-point ride—featuring outstanding flow, style, aerial maneuvers, and a front flip off the lip, leaving the crowd roaring in support.
In the women’s competition, Spain’s Nia Suardiaz took the win and claimed the 2025 GWA Wingfoil Wave World Title. In an exciting and high-class final, she came out on top against Moona Whyte (USA). Nia opened with a dominant 8.07-point wave, securing an early lead. Moona Whyte struggled with wave selection early on and, though she improved towards the end of the heat, it wasn’t enough to overtake Nia Suardiaz. Demonstrating great flow and style, Nia Suardiaz capitalized on the new rule allowing air tricks off the wave, finishing with an impressive 17.04 overall score. The mini-final saw Annie Reickert (USA) find her rhythm, opening with an impressive 6.63-point wave that showcased her control and flow.
