WingFoil Racing World Cup 2025 starts with surprises
the Ensis ENGADINWIND WingFoil Racing World Cup got underway yesterday in bright sunshine and winds of up to 21 knots in the stunning setting of Lake Silvaplana, Switzerland. 54 racers from 13 countries and 4 continents competed in four long-distance races of around 6.5 miles each.
In the men’s competition, the newly crowned European champion Mathis Ghio (FRA) was unable to control the action as expected. Rookie Sean Herbert (NZL) surprised everyone and secured victory in the first and second race. Italian Alessandro Tomasi added his name to the list of winners with his victory in race 3. The last competition of the day was won by Kamil Manowiecki from Poland.
In the women’s competition, Maddalena Spanu (ITA) was able to take the overall lead after initial difficulties and a 4th place in the first race. Czech Kristyna Chalupnikova impressed with a win and three second places and made it clear that she intends to fight for the podium places throughout the week.
